Ladies Softball Teams from the Caribbean Coast were Denied Visa.

Bluefields, RAAS, Aug 17-The United States Embassy in Managua, Nicaragua denied visas to the ladies softball teams who were hoping to make the journey to participate in the Tri-State tournament in Maryland, September 1 - 3. This year marked the 23rd anniversary of the tournament and the first time in many years that the ladies teams from the Caribbean coast will not participate in the tournament.

The Vice Consul at the embassy said that the Consulate sited section 214 (b) of the Immigration and Nationality act for not issuing the visas. This section of the Immigration act state that the U.S. immigration law imposes on each visa applicant a presumption of immigrant intent and places the burden of proof entirely upon the applicant to overcome this presumption.

To overcome this presumption the applicant must provide evidence of a permanent residence abroad and such strong professional, financial and family ties to that residence that the applicant will be compelled to return.

According to the Vice Consul at the US embassy in Nicaragua, the team members were unable to show sufficiently strong ties to Nicaragua to overcome the presumption of immigrant intent and therefore were denied visas.
